The Road to Recovery | Building Back Better: How do we define priorities for an inclusive, sustainable and equitable recovery?

The Road to Recovery | Building Back Better: How do we define priorities for an inclusive, sustainable and equitable recovery?

The 4th of August disaster started well before the actual blast, and persists to this day. The real catastrophe was not the explosion itself, but the conditions that made Lebanon vulnerable to this kind of mishaps. Weaknesses in the economy, society, politics and infrastructure amongst others defined the severity of the disaster and how many people were affected by it. Recovering from this disaster should not be as an opportunity, but rather a moral obligation to address existing vulnerabilities by building back better. Dr. Lina Daouk-Öyry from Aalto University, Dr. Natalie Maroun from Heiderich, and Salim Rouhana from the World Bank will discuss how and why recovery should go beyond physical reconstruction, and include several social, psychological and economic aspects of our lives.

The webinar will be in English.
