In October 2019, the AUB Nature Conservation Center (AUBNCC) launched the Environment Academy in partnership with MTV-SAR-EL-WA2T. This initiative encouraged local community teams to submit proposals for sustainable solutions for local environmental problems including solid waste mismanagement, water pollution, air pollution, and the loss of green spaces.
The objectives of the Environmental Academy are to:
- Build the capacity of community members on the process of finding solutions that are fitted to the environmental challenges of this area.
- Use a participatory approach to co-create and activate systematic and feasible environmental solutions.
In January 2020, Impact Lebanon began collaborating with AUBNCC on the Founding Committee of the Environment Academy as the UK Coordinator. Our role is to contribute to developing and refining the systematic process, building the support network, and working on scaling the Environment Academy. We have also formed a team of experts, members and volunteers working on reviewing proposals and offering mentoring, as well as working closely with the local teams in Lebanon.
